Fedora Investigations is a private investigation company that provides victims of fraud with support and advice on how to resolve cases and prevent further instances of fraud from occurring. As this is a relatively new venture, the business required its first website to get the word out about the services on offer. A logo was also needed to provide the company with a suitable brand identity.
In keeping with the fedora theme, the client wanted the design to be a subtle nod to Prohibition era Chicago, but with contemporary influences and a slick, professional look and feel overall. For this reason, a timeless colour scheme of dark blues and greys was chosen, and this is used alongside black and white stock images of the Chicago cityscape and skyline.
Several versions of the logo were created, with each one bringing the vintage aesthetic and the modern profession together in a different way. In the end, the client opted for the simple, classic style seen on the live site – this lends itself well to the sophisticated design of the website as a whole, and allows for the inclusion of additional effects and animations without appearing too cluttered.
These finishing touches include an animated line which appears between the logo and the main content on each page, selection buttons within the top navigation bar, and padded rollovers on various images. These effects are understated, adding a level of interaction that works well with the site’s professional appearance.
